Italven History

1987

Italven Pelli

The De Luca family has been working in the leather industry for generations. In 1987, they founded Italven Pelli to commercialise exotic reptile skins. From the very beginning, the company established its own sourcing channels, importing raw and semi-finished leathers directly from origin countries: the United States, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. A business model built on transparency, quality and responsibility, laying the foundations for what would become a global reference in the exotic leather world.

Italven Tannery

In 2006, Italven opened its tannery in Santa Croce sull’Arno, in the heart of Tuscany’s historic tanning district. The new facility strengthened Italven’s role within a highly competitive market, expanding its reach across: footwear, leather goods, watch straps, furniture and fashion.
Over the following years, Italven implemented an Integrated Management System for Quality, Environment and Social Responsibility, in line with ISO 9001 and 14001 standards. In 2019, the company achieved AQC Certification, meeting the strictest traceability and conformity requirements for luxury watchmaking. A step forward in guaranteeing excellence, control and sustainability across the entire supply chain.

Italven Farm

In 2016, Italven acquired a major stake in a South African Nile crocodile farm, recognising the strategic importance of full supply-chain control. The facility integrates circular water filtration, , creating a benchmark for sustainable reptile breeding.
The farm is now certified under ICFA 1001:2019, which focuses on animal welfare and sustainable farming practices. That same year, Italven became a proud member of the International Crocodilian Farmers Association (ICFA). A vertical approach that ensures traceability, ethics and quality, from the source to the final product.

Italven Sustainability Report

In 2023, Italven presented its first Sustainability Report, marking a pivotal step toward structured, transparent and measurable accountability. Developed in line with European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), the report reflects a growing commitment to responsibility and traceability across the entire value chain. The Sustainability Report builds upon the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Project, introduced to scientifically measure and reduce the environmental impact of leather manufacturing processes. This path was further strengthened in 2024 with the achievement of LWG Silver Certification, recognising Italven’s environmental and social performance. A strategic milestone that transforms sustainability from intent into measurable action, guiding future development with clarity and purpose.

Italven Tannery Expansion

In 2026, Italven begins the expansion of its tannery in Santa Croce sull’Arno, with an additional 3,000 square metres of production space, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The project integrates a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system that will significantly reduce the company’s reliance on external electricity sources. As part of its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) strategy, this move is expected to reduce up to 88% of the tannery’s electrical demand through renewable energy, contributing to a substantial reduction in the environmental impact of production processes. This expansion represents a concrete step towards a more resilient and energy-efficient model that combines growth with sustainable practices, strengthening Italven’s leadership in responsible manufacturing.

For various reasons, Dan and Adam decide to turn down a $100,000 investment from Antler and start their own business venture, without taking outside investment.

To do this they would have to build a company that would be profitable in its first year. Not the next Uber of *insert clever idea*.

After building 11 websites on Webflow in under 6 weeks as a way to test a number of business ideas, Dan and Adam decide to stick to what they know best and launch Relume - a company that designs and builds beautiful Webflow websites.

“Relume was an opportunity for us to build a profitable business, not a startup that bleeds cash, whilst doing what we love to do. It also allows us to learn about all types of businesses and the problems they deal with. These are all opportunities that we could potentially solve for in the future. For now, our goal is simple, we want to build a kickass business which means we really want our customers and the Webflow community to succeed too.”
